2500 kW MTU 20V4000: Industrial-Grade Gas-to-Power for Demanding Applications
The 2500 kW MTU 20V4000 is a fully containerized gas-to-power (G2P) system engineered for continuous, flexible electrical generation in challenging environments. Designed and manufactured to ISO 9001 standards, it arrives as a connection-ready module, dramatically reducing installation complexity and time on site.
At its core is a four-stroke gas engine paired with a high-efficiency synchronous generator, connected via SAE flange and flexible coupling. A gearbox converts engine speed from 1,500 rpm to the 60 Hz standard of 1,800 rpm, making the unit purpose-built for North American grid requirements. The generator operates at 13.8 kV medium voltage and complies with IEC 60034, NEMA MG 1.32-33, UL 1004, and CSA standards.
The unit is housed in a 15×3×3m (50×10×10 ft) signal-grey container rated at 78 dB(A) at 10 meters. Key enclosure features include:
- Mineral wool insulated walls, ceiling, and doors with flame-retardant cladding
- Built-in oil containment via a welded, coated base floor
- Roof-mounted air inlets and exhaust outlets for passive ventilation
- Electric and manual louvers for climate control down to -20°C (-4°F)
- LED lighting and NEMA 5 (Type B) electrical outlets throughout
The thermal management system includes three separate skid units — engine circuit, intercooler circuit, and dump circuit — enabling electricity-oriented operation with full heat rejection when no thermal load is present. A dual-circuit radiator handles excess heat dissipation.
Controls are handled by a PLC-based system with HMI touchscreen, supporting grid-parallel, load-following, and automatic island mode operation. Connectivity includes Modbus TCP and the integrated 2G POWER PLANT module, which links to the IRIS remote monitoring platform for AI-assisted diagnostics and predictive maintenance. Additional features include:
- Gas alarm system (smoke, CH4 ×2, CO)
- Bearing and winding temperature monitoring
- Ignition failure detection with per-cylinder reporting
- Remote motor control access
The system is designed to meet the specific norms and regulations noted below:
